Springbrook to open Oneonta clinic

The Daily Star - 7/27/2019

Jul. 27--A new location for Springbrook, an Oneonta non-profit organization providing support and services to individuals with disabilities, will open at 438 Main St. in Oneonta on Thursday, Aug. 1.

An open house, reception and ribbon cutting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. that day, according to a press release from Springbrook. To reserve a spot at the opening reception, contact Danielle Smith at smithdan@springbrookny.org or 607-286-7171, extension 436.

The newly remodeled building will house a wellness clinic and the main office of Southern Tier Connect, a care coordination service for individuals with disabilities, according to the release. Southern Tier Connect serves families in 14 counties in New York state. It has offices in in Binghamton, Cortland, Hamden, Norwich and Ithaca, and Oneonta will be the new headquarters for the entire organization.

At the wellness clinic, people with developmental disabilities can receive primary care services from specialized healthcare professionals, the release said. Eventually, neurological, psychological and dental services will be added, Springbrook CEO Patricia Kennedy said. Springbrook already has a school-based health system for children, which opened November 2018, according to media release from Bassett Healthcare Network.

"The exciting part is extending this service to our adults," Kennedy said. "The objective is to get all your care as close to home as you can."

Patients at the wellness clinic will be accommodated with specialized equipment, extended exam times, a comfortable atmosphere and healthcare providers familiar with the needs of people with developmental disabilities, the release said. Services through the wellness clinic will be available to anyone who receives support through the state Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, not just those who choose Springbrook as their service provider.

"The basis for the building was about considering a person's whole life and what they need to make that life full, healthy, and happy," Kennedy said in the release. "In this new space, we bring together all of the best supports to make that possible."
