Commission on Disabilities Issues presents scholarship to Haverhill High grad

Eagle-Tribune - 8/1/2019

Aug. 1--The Haverhill Commission on Disability Issues recently awarded a $2,000 scholarship to Claire Brady, 18, a Haverhill High School graduate, Class of 2019, who is heading to Wheaton College with the goal of becoming a teacher.

Brady was presented with her award in Mayor James Fiorentini's office in City Hall, where she was joined by her parents, Bill and Elisabeth Brady, and her brother Liam, who is entering his junior year at Haverhill High.

Commission co-chair Fran Hogan, member Gerard Boucher and scholarship chairperson Anne Dougthy presented the award to Brady on July 25, the day before the country celebrated the 29th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act, which was signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George H.W. Bush.

The mayor said this is only the second year this new scholarship has been awarded, and that it is is funded through parking fines.

Commission officials said the scholarship is for a graduating senior, who has a disability, and is continuing their education.
