Green gets $100,000 for remodel Torok Center

KEY ACTION: Accepted a $100,000 2019 Community Development Block Grant for Americans With Disabilities Act renovations at the John Torok Community and Senior Center.

DISCUSSION: Councilman Chris Humphrey said the grant includes a reimbursable $25,000 match from the city, which also got approval.

City Communications Coordinator Valerie Wolford said the ADA improvements at the 31-year-old building will include a complete interior remodel. The work will include new flooring, new paint, kitchen updates including new cabinets and countertops, updating the bathrooms, updating audio visual equipment, and opening up the space in the lobby. The work is expected to be completed by late fall.

OTHER ACTION:

Created the position and pay range for a parks planning and development administrator. This position replaces the parks and recreation superintendent. The change is being made to better reflect the duties. The pay range was set at between $66,500 and $93,000 annually. Approved two contracts with American Structurepoint for $8,748 and $348,300 respectively for engineering services related to the city's Massillon Road/Boettler Road roundabout and Massillon Road/Corporate Wood Circle roundabout projects. Approved salary adjustments for non-bargaining unit city employees in order to align with the salary and compensation adjustments in the most recent contracts between the city and its three employee unions. The union contracts included an average 2.6 percent annual salary increase. Those jobs include department directors and managers. UP NEXT: Meets at 7 p.m.Aug. 27 at City Hall, 1755 Town Park Blvd.
