The Daily Globe - 4/2/2024

Apr. 1—JACKSON — Aaron Michael Johnson, 28, of Jackson, is charged in Jackson County Fifth District Court with felony-level domestic assault by strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault following a March 20 incident at a Jackson business.

According to the law enforcement report, numerous officers were dispatched to the business for a report of a disturbance in the manager's apartment. The reporting party stated the suspect, Johnson, may have a firearm.

When officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly found the victim at the bottom of the steps leading to the manager's apartment. A Jackson County sheriff's deputy reportedly observed Johnson holding a firearm and commanded him to drop the weapon and exit the apartment. Johnson reportedly didn't comply or respond, which resulted in the High-Risk Entry and Arrest Team being called to the scene.

Meanwhile, another deputy met with the victim, who stated that they woke up with Johnson on top of them, squeezing their neck. The victim reportedly heard a cracking sound and started to lose consciousness but was able to yell for help.

The victim also reported that Johnson struck them multiple times in the face and body with open and closed hands.

Another individual heard the victim yell for help and reportedly came in and was able to get Johnson off the victim. The victim was then able to make it down the steps and call 911.

The victim was reportedly observed by deputies to have a cut on the upper lip and redness on their neck. The victim also reported having pain in the left rib area.
