Veterans can pick up free bus passes for clinic visits

South Florida Sun Sentinel - 7/25/2019

Jul. 25--Broward County-based military veterans are receiving some assistance in getting to a Veterans' Administration facility thanks to donations from a Coral Springs organization.

Veterans needing help with transportation to the William Kling VA Clinic in Sunrise will be able to get free bus passes. The Veterans Coalition of Coral Springs donated $1,000 worth of bus passes, according to the organization. Each pass is good for an entire day. Passes are available at the clinic on as-needed basis through the clinic's social services, while supplies last.

"Our purpose is to help other veterans," said Ernie Kubasek, the coalition's president. "Some veterans don't have the money for a bus pass or can't travel alone so they need a pass for a family member or helper, too."

The bus passes were presented at the clinic on July 22 by Kubasek and other coalition members. Carlos Julemiste, voluntary service specialist, accepted the donation for the clinic. This is the second the time coalition has donated the bus passes to assist veterans.

Some of its other efforts include visiting veterans at the state veterans home, assisting individual veterans and families looking for services and hosting community events such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day services in Coral Springs.
